I am very pleased to provide a positive review for my Canadian families stay in the Jardines de Olon this past January, 2012. My name is Jordan, now happily married to my Ecuadorian wife Ivonne. We have been living together in Montanita, Ecuador, for the past 2 years. Montanita is the neighbouring town of Olon, located just a couple of kilometres south, where many people from around the world come to surf, relax, and enjoy the local surroundings.

As my wife and I were planning our wedding for January, 2012, we decided to host the wedding on the most beautiful beach in Ecuador, which in our opinions is that of Olon. The beach here is incredibly long, extremely wide, and has beautiful light coloured sand which make for amazing days at the beach. The nice thing about Olon, is that it has all the necessities needed for any vacation. There is a wonderful atmosphere in the town, fantastic locals, an extremely quiet ambience at night. With this being said, it was an obvious choice to rent a house in Olon for my parents and family from Canada to stay during their visit. With our experience and knowledge of the entire coastal area, Olon specifically, we already knew that we wanted to find a home in the "Jadines de Olon" community. Luckily we contacted Todd and his wife Lee, who fortunately had their home available for the dates necesary. With some quick and easy internet communication, we had made reservations and exchanged photos of the home which created excitement to those coming in from Canada.

Todd and Lee were such a pleasure to work with, from making the reservations, picking up the keys, and showing up on the first day to an organized and perfectly cleaned home made for a great entry. From the first moment we parked in the driveway, walked the nicely landscaped property, toured the house, and then entered the gate to the beach, everyone was in love, and happy to have 10 days of paradise ahead of us. Thankfully, our intuition on renting this home in Olon was a success, and my family were able to enjoy their stay in a comfortable home, large enough to offer privacy to each member of the family, yet with the ambience for an intimate and relaxing atmosphere for all to enjoy one-anothers company. The house has all the amenities and services that one would need for whatever style of vacation their planning. The large kitchen made for great home cooked dinners, and the many balconies and patios often made it hard to decide where the socializing and relaxing would take place!!!!

The best part of the "Jardines de Olon" is that its in its own little community of tranquility, and just outside the gates you have one of South Americas most beautiful beaches, and a great little town filled with life and good energy.

It was a sad day when we had to leave, but every good thing comes to an end. I can say that this trip may have came to an end, but because of our great experience, my parents are actually actively looking for property on the same coast, and hope to return in the near future to their vacation home.

Thanks to Todd, Lee, and the very professional service they offer, we not only had the trip and visit of a lifetime, but my family was left with the energy to make the move themselves, and invest to return to that piece of life that they had during their 10 days in Olon.

As the son, id have to say that it is a fulfilling feeling knowing that my parents, aunts and uncles, cousins, and friends, all had a great experience and exciting stay in Ecuador. Because of the culture, the town, the weather, the beaches, waves, great rental home, and easy organization of their visit, we were able to enjoy the wedding of our dreams.

Thanks so much again to Todd and Lee!

Dear Todd and Leigh
What a perfect vacation! (4 days was however tooooo short). To me and my family this is indeed a perfect Ecuadorian beach paradise. Our children loved the beach and their resting bedroom. We enjoyed the overall relaxing atmosphere and perfect in all the aspects house.
We are very grateful and privileged to be your guests.
This was the first time that we rented this property and we wouldn't think of going anywhere else when going to the beach. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
We are looking forward to go back very soon (upon my return from Venezuela and Paraguay).
Thank You again for such a place and talk to you guys soon.

Hello Todd,
How are you? We have now settled back into our home in Quito although we do miss the beach at our doorstep! As promised here are some comments for you:

We had a wonderful stay! You and Leigh made us feel very welcome from the start of our visit and gave us excellent advice on making trips, places to eat and how to get around. The house had everything we needed and more! We were ideally located on a peaceful stretch of beach that also had numerous cabanas which provided delicious food. We could also easily reach the busier town of Montanita within 5 minutes, where we found lots of restaurants, bars and shops. We would highly recommend staying here!

We will be in contact about future visits with New Years possibly in mind. Let us know if you need to know by a certain time.

Hope all in well and say hello to Leigh,

Cheers,
Alex

Hi Leigh,

One of my best friends stayed with you last spring...Leigh and Neville. I am so excited for them with the successful purchase of their Ballenita beach house. Leigh has nothing but great things to say about you and their time in Olon. None of which is a surprise to me as I always tell others...you guys rock!

I just wanted to say again how much I appreciated you and Todd's friendship and hospitality last Dec. You set the stage for me to have a most meaningful life experience...life changing as I tell it.

Hope all is well with the two of you. If you are still renting your home during the high season, let me know and maybe I can send someone your way. Of all the places I discovered along the Ruta del Sol, you and your home would be the first place I would recommend to anyone wanting to rent for a few weeks or more. You have a paradise there...but you already know that.

So take care, give my best to Todd and watch out for cyclists on the road....you may just know one of them.

Hi Todd,
Chuck's place is the perfect house to enjoy a peaceful few days taking advantage of the best that the Montanita area has to offer. Even though the house does not sit directly on the beach, its location is perfect to take advantage of the beach breezes and sounds. The house itself is very cozy with a kitchen that has all of the comforts of home. When we rent houses in the area, we love to take advantage of being able to prepare a few meals ourselves and really appreciated having new, modern, dishes and silverware to use. Also, the external speaker system provided was great. There was not a waking minute spent in the house where it wasn't in use. Hammocks en lieu of a couch is also a nice touch! Very easy to commute to Montanita to spend time in the town and then get away from the hustle and bustle to enjoy some peace and tranquility.

We would love to come stay at the Casa De los Suenos if it is still available. We would check in the afternoon of July 22, 2011 and leave on Monday, July 25, 2011.
Thanks,
Jen

Hey Todd,

We all had a great time…It was wayyyyyy too short.  I love the area and the grounds the house is located.  Olon is my kind of town.  Very local chill feeling.  Montanita is cool, but I prefer Olon a lot more…Tranquilo is the word. Don’t forget about my house swap offer in the future.

I’m sure you will get business from the girls very soon.  They have a nice group of friends that will treat the house/houses very well.  They are not out of control as some youth can be.

Say hi to Leigh for me.

Regards,

Muchas, Muchas  gracias!!

What a lovely week we’ve had – sun, surf, national park, archaeological museum, Montanita highlife, delicious seafood, soft beds, cool breezes and of course, a nightly pina colada en la playa!!

Really, we so appreciate your hospitality and attention to detail (loved the books, music, ipod station, beach chairs and toys and hammocks). Oh, and sharing Daisy.

You have a warm and welcoming home and we have fantastic family memories to take back home. Ahhh…

Hope you and Leigh are well.

We loved getting together with neighbors around the outdoor grill and bar in the evening, quiet afternoon naps in one of the many hammocks strung here and there, long daily walks on the beach and those unforgettable sunsets (always so promptly at 6:30pm!) This house really offered us the perfect combination of public party space and private retreat space -- all right there on the most amazing beach.  So many thanks to Todd and Leigh for taking care of all the details so we could enjoy this magical place -- we'll be back!

Todd and Leigh,

It's been a week since we left pardise!...

Thanks for making our first trip to Ecuador so great.  From coordinating our transportation to and from the airport, to being there to greet us at 2 am in the morning when we arrived, and making sure we knew our way around Olon and Montanita.  You made coming to a new country exciting and fun .

We enjoyed staying in your beautiful beach house.  It was fully equiped, just unpack your suitcases and walk out to the beach! And what a beach!  We loved all the people we met that live in your little neighborhood.  They were all so friendly and fun to hang out with.  It was awesome to have so many food choices to eat at right on the beach, and within a couple hundred yards of the house.  We loved sitting out there eating and drinking while watching those awesome sunsets.  It was the perfect house for us to rent.

The exciting nightlife of Montanita (only a $1 cab ride away, or 25 cent bus ride) mixed with the tranquility of the Olon beach house, was the perfect recipe for us to escape our hectic California lifestyle.  We are already looking forward to our next visit in May.  See you then.

Hola Todd!
we got back after a long trip home.
slightly chillier here, but the sun is a shinin'!
Thanks so much for you guys' hospitality again...
The house was possibly the best part of the trip.  The best showers in
both Montanita and Olon with actual high pressure and constant hot
water (the rest of the towns shut off the water during the day for a
few hours but this house runs off a separate supply, and no one else
had consistent hot water for more than a minute at a time).  We stayed
for a month (actually extended our stay in the house by a week instead
of traveling to Peru).  We initially stayed in Montanita the first few
nights which was fun, but after two nights in a upscale hostel (that
cost the same price as this far larger and superior house) we wanted
to get out of the crazy party town and retreat to the much quieter and
perhaps more traditionally authentic Ecuadorian beach town of Olon.
Perfect location, a mile up the road from Montanita.  25 cent bus
ride, 50 cent taxi, or 20 minute walk from Olon to Montanita so we
would hang out in Montanita at night and spend the days on the beach
in Olon.  A beautiful run up and over the point.  When surfing gets
too crowded in Montanita, all the waves are yours in Olon.  If you
wanna stay in, there is an amazing dvd collection and book exchange
collection.  Kitchen is amazing and we had frequent guests for dinner
and drinks.  As far as restaurants, Tito and Hanna's on the beach had
the best fish for three bucks.  Oswaldo, the grounds care taker was
amazing, even delivered horses to our front door which we rode out
onto the beach one day.  He was also amazing about getting just about
anything we needed, bus tickets, random supplies, and even would
replace a giant several gallon water cooler water jug (in the house!)
for 2 bucks (otherwise you are buying bottles of water constantly).
If you are coming to Montanita or Olon to volunteer or learn spanish,
stay in this house if its available... far better than any other
'montanita spanish school' accommodations, and will make the trip
worthwhile.  Best part of the house were the owners, Todd and Leigh.
They are like the mayors of Montanita, know everyone, where to eat,
where to drink, and so incredibly chill and hospitable.  I'd never
become facebook friends with anyone I rented a place from until now!
Great people, great house, beautiful fun location and perfect
launching point for surfing and all the standard tropical beach
diving, zip line, etc excursions.

be well,
tom

We recently stayed at Casa Frost-Hebert for a little over a week on our honeymoon.  After spending two weeks traveling throughout Ecuador already, we were ready for some relaxing and unwinding in the tranquilo beach town of Olon.  Upon arrival, our gracious hosts, Todd and Leah, welcomed us to this beautiful area.  After staying at several other rental locations, we cannot say enough about these two.  They made our stay at the beach the most memorable part of the trip.  The house in Olon is wonderful.  The kitchen is fully stocked, laundry is available to you at the home, we always had hot showers, and the place was spotless.  To top it all off, Todd, a former executive chef made a delicious chicken dinner for everyone!  If you are into visiting the rain forest, Isla de la Plata, surfing or any activity imaginable, Todd and Leah will work to not only make it happen, but to get the best deal and ensure that you are satisfied with your experience - we can testify to this!  If you have any hesitation at all, please email me - we would love to tell you why renting from these owners, in this location, is one of the best decisions you can make while traveling abroad.

Hi Guys,

Thank you both so much for all of your help and advice while we were in Ecuador, we had an absolutely wonderful vacation!

I’m glad you liked the Wahoo..I had heard it was a really good eating fish and there certainly was enough of it.

The tougher question was, what didn’t we love about Olon. The village was charming and safe, the beach was as beautiful as any we’d ever seen, the people were friendly, the fishing, horseback riding, the whale watching, it was all wonderful. We would love to have you visit us in NH…please take us up on the offer of our summer place sometime.

Todd,

We had such a great time! I speak for everyone when I say that the house was amazing, the area beautiful, and the people so friendly. None of us wanted to leave!!

Oswaldo was great. He helped us with everything, and his wife is an amazing cook! She cooked us dinner twice, both times fabulous.

Your house was perfect. The outdoor shower was used I think for every shower taken all week!  The feed recs were great, Hola Ola was our favorite spot, and we went on multiple nights. We had a bonfire on the beach one night too, which was a great experience. Relaxing on  the beach in Olon was a daily occurence. We did go to Montanita, and loved it, but I have never been on a beach so alive with sea creatures, and so beautiful! It was great.

Lastly, a thanks to Keith also. The boys loved talking with him, and really enjoyed the ride!

Everyone I know wants to go visit Ecuador now. We had such an amazing time. And the lack of stress, the happiness on everyones faces, really makes you reexamine your life!

I plan on returning. My parents and brothers want to rent the place! I have given everyone who asked your email, and your website.

THanks for having us!! Enclosed are a few pictures for you. Hope you enjoy them!

Dear Leigh and Todd,
Thank you so much for allowing us to stay in your beautiful Ecuadorian home.  We loved every minute of it and our vacation was perfect.  The house is great and feels like a home rather than like a rental which makes all the difference.  There were enough waves for the boys to surf every day in front of the house and they never even felt like they needed to surf in Montanita.  That made life very easy for us all.  Oswaldo and Carlos and their families were great as were Olon and Montanita.  We ate like kings and had some fun explorations.  My son got hooked on Nip Tuck...the perfect down time activity (though a touch inappropriate at times, but what happens in Olon stays in Olon, right?)  Keith was very helpful and full of information and his family as great.  All in all, I think this was the best vacation we have had.  I was absolutely not ready to leave.  Thank you for everything.

Dear Todd and Leigh

We thoroughly enjoyed the time at your beautiful house, the friendly little town of Olon, and exploring the coast. A highlight for me was scuba diving off Isla de la Plata, look in the pictures for the many turtles who were nesting and were as abundant at the surface as they were 60 feet down! Both of us also valued our long walks on your beautiful beach….wish I were still there!

Our visit would not have been as wonderful without the help of so many people. We were very grateful for the pick up, grocery excursion and company of Keith as we made the drive from Guayaquil to the house. He was so generous in suggesting things to do and see and restaurants to visit. Oswaldo kept an eye on us and we appreciated his efforts too. We enjoyed watching his beautiful children play in the area. Ronald and Parajito made sure we got driven everywhere we needed to go. And most importantly, we were so grateful for the help and support of Edgar and Claudia. We thoroughly enjoyed getting to know them, the hikes, massage, reiki treatment when I was stressed about the keys, the numerous calls and translations Edgar did for us to arrange things, numerous interesting conversations, and just generally knowing they were there.

Thanks again for allowing us to stay. Working with you and Todd was easy and your care and concern for our trip and our well being were very evident.

All the best!

The trip was amazing!  The house was in the perfect location as well.  Finally got some waves during the second half of the week and I surfed right behind the house by myself in warm water which was exactly what I was looking for.  We ate at Lolita's almost everyday and could not believe how good the shrimp ceviche was.

Ended up giving out about 250 bags of crayons and supplies to the kids around town.  I felt like santa clause!  The kids where running from the houses and following me for blocks.  I've attached a few photos for you to see some of the kids, whales and horses we saw.

Thanks again for the incredible house and hospitality.  We will be back again soon!

Take care, Danny

Leigh,
We did have a terrific time!  We loved everything about Ecuador.  We definitely fell in love with Olon and the people there.
When we were at Olon we did the tour over to Isla de la Plata and saw numerous whales on our way over to the island and back!  We also went deep sea fishing and saw more whales (with Oswaldo).  We loved hanging out at the beach and seeing all the sand dollars and star fish..

We are going to leave feedback on the rentals page... but we really enjoyed ourselves and had a wonderful time!!

Additional Comments:

Just got back from a week stay in Olon, Ecuador with 4 of my friends on a surf trip. The house was beautiful, and the amenities were great. Olon is only 1 mile north or Montanita. We really liked the property because is was so close to a great surf spot, yet nice and quiet for when we wanted to relax. Oswaldo was around daily taking care of the beautiful flowers on the property, and to assist us with anything we may have needed. Overall, this was a great trip and couldn't have picked a better house to rent! 10 second walk from the beach!

We spent three beautiful days and nights there, and felt as though we were your personal guests.  The house was nice and clean and inviting, just as you would have hoped to find it yourself.  I opened the shutters and let the breeze pass through the screens, and it was as pleasant as can be.  Upon our arrival on Sunday night, Tito met us where we were eating dinner in Montanita, and rode home with us to show us the way.  The remainder of the time, Oswaldo was very attentive to our needs, even though in reality, we needed very little.

There were so many things that we enjoyed about the house, that it would take a long letter to describe all of them in detail.  We really enjoyed the DVD library, the manicured back yard in which to read, and the sound of the crashing waves, just far enough away to lull you to sleep.  I loved the veranda off the bedroom, with a view of the beach.  The house really is a delight in so many ways.  A tranquil neighborhood is an added bonus.
